We found this wonderful restaurant using trip advisor as we were staying in Winchester for a Mothers Day treat. Wow, the food was incredible, as was the service. The manager was so friendly and attentive. What a superb restaurant, we wish we lived closer. Thank you to the team for a great evening!.
Honestly been twice here now and both times an exceptional meal. Mark and David great hosts . Can’t fault this pub. Not that local but when I’m in Winchester I won’t go anywhere else

Excellent food! We tried a new starter (piro paneer) and also a new main (chicken shashlik) based on previous reviews, both were excellent. Highly recommended!
After a lovely 4 mile walk around the area in the beautiful spring sunshine we decided to try The Plough for a drink and spot of lunch. We had booked elsewhere but so glad we cancelled that and stopped here instead.We had phoned ahead just to check and were told it would be busy as a large party was booked but we had no issues at all and didnt wait long for our food. The pub is very tastefully decorated and very welcoming. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The drinks were cold which was very welcomed after the walk!The food was cooked fresh, hot and delicious. As I need to be gluten free, my order was amended to my needs and the staff made the extra effort to check that my chips (I have to have chips!!) would be ok if they were fried in the same fryer that batter had been in - yes, no problem as just intolerant but so nice to be asked. The four meals were all different and clear plates all round.I would recommend The Plough to anyone and will be returning again soon.
We had a fantastic visit to shoal. The food was amazing. Full of flavour and the chips were some of the best I’ve had. The service was 10/10 and our server Bethany was very prompt and served us with a smile. Spectacular service.
We had a range of vegetarian dishes. All of them were delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We went on Thursday evening and by the time we left the restaurant getting very busy which tests to the excellentreputation that it clearlyhas.
I stayed at The Fox with my son. Unfortunately only 2 nights, if I could I would stay forever. The food and service were fantastic. I have never been served so warmly anywhere else. A big hug to you all.

Good service from Ryan tonight, came to watch the football with friends and had an amazing time. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. They have amazing Service and are very nice.
My wife and I visited for lunch on a Friday. The chef is excellent, as is the value offered by the '2 courses for £16, 3 courses for £30' set menu (at lunch times, or early evening). We chose to order two starters each from the a-la-carte. We both started with an attractively presented 'Wild mushrooms in brioche'. This had a classy sauce and some deliciously fresh pea sprouts as a decoration. I continued with a Prawn Gumbo soup (who would imagine finding that in an English pub?) My wife chose a smoked duck salad, which contained a good quantity of duck slices. A glass of local beer, for me, and a glass of sauvignon blanc for Thelma, completed our order. We very much enjoyed our unusual lunch.
We booked a table for Mothers Day. Lovely greeting when we arrived, we all decided to have the roast beef which was delicious, probably the best roast I’ve had, everything was cooked beautifully and lovely thick gravy. We were looked after by Wilma who was friendly and attentive. The bridge is a beautiful pub with lovely gardens. Looking forward to returning.
Giving a 5* review because I told Roshan I would….We had a bunch of diff servers, one being Roshan and one being Abby. Both 5* for them as they were lovely. We went in Jan and Roshan was the server for us as well. Both great!Service was good. We was seated and checked our drinks for bottomless, we then was asked what our first was and then was brought it over. Then asked for the second. We was wondering when we would be asked for food, this then soon happened anyways. I guess each place does it different but some I’ve been to will deliver you a drink and put thru your next drink on delivery, this time round it wasn’t always like that. However some times we did end up having a few drinks on the table anyways… tho in the end we just kept asking as they were at the table for more drinks and they told us wether they could or not which was fine. They have good patience at this rate lol.Place was clean and tidy and quiet then busier, expectable. Food came out and have nothing to fault about it apart from how spicy it is lol. But I don’t have a good spice tolerance so that’s on me. Had the jerk chicken wrap and I didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t that. Though it was okay anyways…Cocktails were okay, some really nice and some not so nice, but each to their own in flavours. We had 48 drinks on the bill and there was 4 of us so makes 12 drinks across the 2 hours which isn’t too bad. We had blue light discount and the app, and I think BLD was 20% off but it equated to £7 discount on the receipt which was 5% discount.. which didn’t seem right but I didn’t question it. Then the £14 service charge is a lot. Was about £38 each for it. Seems a lot but you’re getting 12 drinks and food so it’s not too bad in that way…Either way had a good night and lovely staff and atmosphere. I hope Roshan and Abby get noticed from their review mentions 😊
Amazing pie and mash shop with a comic book and gaming theme. Pies are gluten free, some vegan and vegetarian too. Delicious meal and reasonably priced too.
We have visited this restaurant many times, and almost every time we come away full of praise for the service and food, etc. On the rare occasion when we had a complaint, it was dealt with immediately and to our satisfaction. This visit was to celebrate our daughter's birthday and they didn't disappoint. In spite of it being the day before Mothers Day, and the restaurant was buzzing, we had excellent service and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. So much so that we have booked already for our anniversary next month.
We popped in for the Sunday Lunch and as ever it exceeded expectations. The Menu seems to have had a refresh - as well as keeping the Roasters happy the Sea Bass went well with our non meat eater!
Excellent! Lovely welcome, not too busy for a Wednesday evening but plenty of attentive staff. A go to place when in Winchester. Choose the set menu with two courses at £22.95 which came with endless chips and sauces (whilst two options available went with just the one!). Food was plentiful and despite staff asking several times bottomless top ups were not required. Steaks cooked to perfection - stunning; the baileys cheesecake was the best I have ever tasted. Lovely restaurant, owner and staff very attentive, knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble a must visit. Thank you all
My wife and I visited for dinner on a Friday. The early-evening set menu was did not appeal, and we turned to the a-la-carte. We both started with: 'Butter Roasted Prawn Fine Tart, Lyonnaise Onion, Mushroom Fricassee, Pickled Mushroom, Lobster Bisque £16.50'. This looked a picture on the plate and all parts tasted excellent. My wife continued with another starter: 'Local Smoked Chalk Stream Trout Roulade, Soft Herb Emulsion, Salad of Curly Endive & Lamb’s Lettuce, Trout Caviar Dressing. £14.95'This was well presented and tasty, too. For my main I chose: 'Venison Haunch, Venison Cottage Pie, Pickled Golden Beetroot, Rosemary Jus £29.50'. The venison haunch was top-class, delicious and very tender. It was accompanied by a venison pie presented in a miniature saucepan, topped by a very good mashed potato. So, we were very happy indeed with the food. Our well-made coffees were accompanied by home-made fudge and marshmallow.A problem arose with the wine by the glass. My wife had chosen two seafood dishes.The wine list included two French wines that would have been admirably suited: a sauvignon blanc and a Muscadet. Neither of these was offered by the glass, only by the full bottle! When we queried with the waiter, asking which of the by-the-glass wines would be a good choice, he recommended an Austrian Gruner Veltwiner (similarly priced by the bottle). This tasted nowhere near as good as either of the French wines would have done. It was around £12 a 175m; glass, for a wine type that is £9 a bottle even in Waitrose. Surely such a quality restaurant should offer mainstream French wines by the glass? (Brasserie Blanc, nearby, has some 20 excellent wines by the glass, including many French ones.) No Bordeaux red was offered by the glass, so I had a local Flowerpots beer with my venison.The service here was excellent, as always, and the ambience the best in Winchester.
I recently “cheated” on The Cabinet Rooms and went elsewhere for a coffee. Big mistake. It reminded me why this place is my go-to and prompted me to finally write this review.The coffee here is, hands down, the best in Winchester. I have no idea what they use or how they make it, but it’s clear they’ve put real effort into getting it just right. And it’s not just the coffee. Their attention to detail extends to everything, from the amazing coffee and tea crockery to the interesting (to say the least) art on the walls.The team are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to make me an off-menu Martini whenever I drop in on a Friday, which is a nice touch. Their cocktail menu is seasonal and ever changing, always offering something new while maintaining the same high quality. The drinks are carefully crafted, and the selection of spirits and wines is excellent.Whether you’re after a morning coffee, an afternoon tea, or an evening cocktail, The Cabinet Rooms is an easy recommendation. Just don’t make the mistake I did. You won’t find better elsewhere!
