Wildflower Walk

景观步行区Manly Vale排名第 1 的景点体验 (共 3 个)
The Wildflower Trail is one of several walking trails in the Manly Dam area. This is the shortest and the easiest. It is only 350 metres each way, making it a very good trail to introduce younger children to bushwalking. It’s not looped so you just backtrack and return the same way you came in. Allow about 30 minutes. The trail starts near the Section 3 carpark. There are also large information boards with maps near the park entrance. Its helpful to take photo of the maps beforehand, especially if you’re planning to do more then one trail. To extend the walk, you can connect with the Nature Trail. Or the entire Park Circuit Trail is 7.3 kilometres in length and goes right around the dam. We were there in August and there were so many native flowers in bloom. There was a swathe of the small purple and pick boronia, lots of native heath fuchsia, with distinctive red and white bell-shaped flowers and the always cheerful everlasting daisies.

Manly Warringah War Memorial Park

公园Manly Vale排名第 3 的景点体验 (共 3 个)
The Manly Warringah War Memorial Park commemorates those who served WWI, WWII and other conflicts. The park covers 375ha of natural bushland and includes Manly Dam lake as well as several bushwalking trails. Two war memorial monuments sit close together inside the park, commemorating those killed in WWI and WWII. Later, an additional plaque was added to remember those who served in Borneo and Vietnam and the 212 who died there. The memorials sit beside the lake in a bushland setting - a poignant reminder of those who died overseas and would never return to see their native country again. The first memorial is in a very simple but traditional and formal style. A polished dark grey granite plaque sits upon two unpolished granite steps. A flagpole is positioned next to the memorial. On the top step, are the Navy, Army and Air Force emblems. The inscription reads: “This memorial is dedicated to all who gave their lives, served or are serving Australia in the armed forces, civil support services and those who strive for world peace. Gavin Anderson Founding Chairman Manly Warringah Memorial Park Remembrance Trust. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn at the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them, Lest we forget.” The second memorial is an unconventional, symbolic design. It is composed of 2 standing columns and one column lying on the ground alongside a sphere on a low plinth near the water. A short inscription on the sphere reads: “World Peace, forgiveness, harmony, trust, co-operation, caring, understanding, happiness” The grassy, open area around the memorials is a popular picnic spot and the dam lake in front of the memorials is popular for kayaking and water skiing. There’s a large and attractive playground and toilet block. It is labelled Picnic Area Section 1 & 2 on the park maps. GETTING THERE: Free street parking is available at the end of King Street in Manly Vale and from there, you can walk into the park. There is additional parking inside but it’s only free for Northern Beaches residents. For everyone else, its a Pay & Display system.
