Painted by John Murray and Sooty Welsh ( with some assistance from Bob Barrett) this piece of work was done in 2017. The artwork features Galahs, fence posts to signify the rural aspect of Coonamble, plus the sun, moon and the Southern Cross.
It is a pretty piece of work and to be honest, you appreciate it more the longer you look at it.. it's not something that will jump out with a central piece but a flowing story...Many Aboriginal Australians also refer to the world-creation time as "Dreamtime". The Dreaming laid down the patterns of life for the Aboriginal people. The patterns swirling through this seem to tell a story... which is why the more you look, the more you see in this piece.

This is an incredibly inventive way to meet the townsfolk...they introduce them on these boards in the Main Street. If you are looking for a single place where you can read them all... uh uh. They are spread over buildings... and they tell the tales of the locals in the Australian lingo.
I really enjoyed the boards, the quirky stories... until I fell over. Inclement weather had left mud in the gutters and I wasn't self aware. After finally making my way to my feet with the help of locals , I shakily continued the walk down the Main Street.
It's entirely up to you what you make of this...but I enjoyed the Australian quirkiness ... the Oz-tralian introductions to the locals. Not even my fall distracted me from enjoying them.

Along their Main Street there is aboriginal artwork on the hardware store and then in Bank Lane. There is a sign to give you further information about the Bank Lane works... it was done by an young man called Jamie Hamilton. Apparently Jamie is deaf and mute ( due to meningitis ) ... but Jamie is not a sum of what he can't do, but rather what he can do.
Jamie is the grandson of Jean Hamilton. Jean is well known locally because she is an author who wrote of her experiences on the Pilliga mission.

Remember the old fashioned Christmas cards from the 50s? Me neither... I wasn't born then. Seriously though, yes I have seen them. The artwork on them was a church with snow and it was so pretty. I always wondered where those churches were when I saw the romantic images on cards.
Well those churches aren't in Australia because snow isn't something that we experience a whole lot... but this church still reminds me of those cards. It's pretty... in a traditional sense and you can't help but be mesmerised by it's prettiness a little.
