This trail is very well maintained and user friendly. The asphalt is smooth. Mile markers painted on the trail show every 1/4 mile traveled. There are portapotties near road intersections, many benches and shelters, as well as the usual nature plaques - even trash cans! Built over low-lying swampy land, it is protected by dozens of culverts and occasional wooden bridges. It is scenic, generally shaded, and flat, rising just 200 feet from west to east (with another 100-foot rise returning to the western terminus). Plenty of parking at each end (in Indian Head at the Village Green).

Wow! Never knew this even existed at this location. Visited my Daughter recently & we decided to check it out. What a great history lesson! Great views, very interesting, unique photo opportunities & you can walk to the Potomac if you feel like taking the hike! The property also has an active geocache. House tours on Sunday only but it’s worth it even if the house isn’t open. Would love to return!
