We had an amazing time at Thornbridge Estate.
We came for the makers market, which was of very good quality and had very friendly stall holders.
The Estate is really well set up for children, so many nooks and crannys for them to explore and several play areas! We enjoyed the slides in the forest and the ducks in the pond.
We also walked along to the tunnels on the Monsal trail from here. Really great place to starts from. The first tunnel, the longest one, is about 3/4 mile along the trail.
Would definitely recommend and we will return!
Museum was decorated for Halloween, looked great. Interesting and what's more you can take your dog in. Half an hour to an hour to go round.
. . . can’t relax as need to be aware of people on bicycles. Need to constantly step aside with our dog which needs to be on a lead, understandably, but some pass very fast, showing no consideration for walkers, and our dog cowers. We’ll return during the week whilst checking holidays as it’s a beautiful WALK
Plenty of choice. Some things pricey some not. They could do with some mini trolleys I had angel wings with baskets! The black pudding scotch eggs were delicious!
Where have the fish gone?
Used to walk along bank of River Wye and see large trout, almost so many not enough space for them to move, visited 29th Dec, not a fish visable, either under bridge, or along the bank
A small group of us thoroughly enjoyed the ‘experience’. Great way to learn more about Thornbridge, the way they brew and to taste a good number of excellent beers!
Alice, one of the brewers, was our guide. What a fountain of knowledge!

I was amazed at this lovely church. It is a must-see if you are in Bakewell. So much history with a hidden gem inside. It is very beautiful and peaceful.

A second visit for hubby and I, but a first for our Pal. I love it here and it's great seeing the upkeep of an important, historical site. Preservation is a must. A chilly morning, but refreshing. I was surprised to see plenty of other visitors with it being so cold.
Keep up the great work, we shall return.
. . . we wanted this rural location, a simple, tranquil way of life, full of nostalgia . . . so much so, we have moved here. It’s a beautiful place in all seasons and all weathers; we choose to walk when quiet so that we can enjoy and respect.
Chatsworth is beautiful, we went walking with the dog through the fields with deer and sheep roaming up above the house to the hunting tower and reservoirs, then back down a gently winding road bring us out in the centre of Chatsworth by the adventure playground and near the old stables. The cafe seemed really popular and for good reason as the coffee and cake was terrific.
This is a great Green Flag Park in the centre of Bakewell. It isa lovely place to sit and relax and admire the atrractive beds and borders.
The best sandwich I have ever eaten
After looking in the antiques centre we saw this little cafe it looked amazing on peoples tables so we wandered over for lunch. We got a table straight away as it was just after 2pm i had the Mumbai sandwich. My gosh!! It was amazing!! Probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had.
Top tip, get extra napkins you'll need them! I will be back next time we are in Bakewell for another!! The taste explosion was immense. Excellent stuff and great value.
We used to come here on walks as kids back in the 1980s and picnic on the grass at the side of the river here. Not a lot has changed in 40 years apart from the over abundance of tourists. Even on a cold February day it was busy, I would hate to come here in the summer months.
A lovely little stop off though for a quick Instagram post or whatever your thing is.
What I do like is that the pens are still there on the outside of the village, where they would place the new lambs and then force the ewes to swim across from the village side to get them, all the while...a shepherd would walk across the bridge with a large crook and push the ewes under water to clean the fleece before they then sheered it on the bank by the pens. I remember seeing them do this in the late 70s - early 80s in the summer...and the sound of so much bleating still ringing in my ears haha! Then after that we would go to the mutton roast at Eyam.
. . . the sound of the bells every Sunday is so special to me, beautiful and uplifting. Whilst the church has a presence and is architectural magnificent, the graveyard is full of history . . . so much can be learned.
The church is quite standard for Derbyshire but what was interesting was the story of the virgin crants or 'maiden's garlands' which I had never heard of before. They are both fascinating and somewhat tragic at the same time. Was interesting finding out about them and seeing them but would have been nice if there was a little sign telling you which of the four garlands belong to which young lady. Definitely worth popping in to see them.
It’s absolutely stunning for a walk and/or paddle but I wouldn’t be up for a swim personally, water a bit murky in the swimming area. But absolutely gorgeous. Well worth walking up the hill into the village too, the views are worth the climb!
. . . for cheese! A counter full of the most delicious cheeses and tasters. Helpful lady who helped with the favourites and best sellers. By the time I left there was quite a crowd around the counter wanting the same that I had! Lots of other goodies to add to purchases including beers, gin, pickles etc. A real treat.
In 2013 myself and my then fiancée tied the knot in Bakewell Registry Office.. We live in a neighbouring county but we'd always loved Bakewell and thought it would be a great way to get away for another weekend break. we'd just coincidentally cram a wedding into the proceedings. And so we did. No preparation, a couple of witnesses, the two kids and off we went to the Town Hall.
The staff were wonderful, the wedding was a day to remember and we all had an absolute ball. We genuinely can't recommend the Town Hall more for your wedding needs, we're still together and we visit the Hall every anniversary just to relive the day.
