There is plenty to interest both visitors and locals alike. For rail enthusiasts (like myself) there is a fascinating collection of artefacts and memorabilia connected with the Ilfracombe line. There are many items concerning local history as well as more general exhibits. I loved seeing items connected with Ilfracombe schools including a Honours board from the old Grammar School. I spent many a school assembly reading the names on those boards!
Very enjoyable visit. The clock chimed while we were there which was a bonus! The railway film was ingenious and fascinating to watch. And the story of the WW1 soldiers very moving.
A small local museum cram packed with history of Ilfracombe and miscellaneous curios. Make sure you have enough time to watch the video on the railway very well done and well worth the watch. Friendly and helpful staff.
We've been to the museum today with family, including our grandchildren and it was brilliant. There's something for everyone, the collections there are really interesting. We'd happily return.
A fascinating and interesting museum with a surprisingly large number of varied exhibits Local history and global history blending perfectly. It was well worth a visit.

What a lucky find on a wet bank holiday my grandchildren aged 8 & 6. loved it they found the birds eggs spiders in the draws butterflies etc fascinating and spent ages on the morse coding machine Us Adults also had a trip down memory lane with the artefacts Great museum
Lovely small museum located in the centre of Ilfracombe. The local history was fascinating and very well presented. The rest of the museum was an eclectic mix of everything but still fascinating nonetheless. Would definitely come back again.
This is a fabulous place to learn about various different histories both local and far afield. it has lots of interesting natural specimens & fossills to look at as well as nostaglic technology including ceremonial objects from places like asia, south america and even africa. Opened since Mervyn Palmer their founder opened the museum in 1932.
