The menu said "fresh fish" from the local George Town Seafoods and that's unmistakeably what we got - just the best pub fish and chips we've had in years. My son had the seafood platter which was equally good. Friendly, speedy service and moderate prices. Highly recommended.
Pub grub is not Cordon bleu, it usually is just good food. But the Pier restaurant sets new standards in vile food. McCain frozen verges, baked offerings that had been in the Bain-Marie since lunchtime, and soggy “pumpkin steaks” that could make the hardiest seafarer puke. Avoid unless starving.
We had lunch here and its a lovely location and hotel. We had a chicken parmi, which was good and a seafood basket which was $42. I was happy to pay this expensive price for a pub meal as I hoped it would be good. I was SO disappointed, it was GREASY, DEEP FRIED AND GREASY AGAIN. The fish was deep fried, the prawns were deep fried, the scallops were deep fried, the salt & pepper squid was deep fried and the chips were deep fried. The only goodness on the plate was the small side salad. I could only eat a quarter because all that oil was far too much. In a town known for Tasmanian seafood it was VERY disappointing.
They have pub food, but also restaurant dishes, and the quality was very good. Tried several dishes and all was good. Nice outside seating also.
