I went to get information on having an event there. I was surprised at how unhelpful Mr. Scotto was. We won't have our event there and suggest our week-long guests not go to the restaurant.
This cafe is lovely in the summer, outside under an umbrella -- IF you want a lunch salad. Otherwise, stay away. My husband and I went there twice recently for dinner. Both times were quite awful. The dinner salad we ordered was swimming in dressing. For dinner, I ordered veal piccata, usually a delicate meal. Here, the dinner plate looked like someone simply dumped the food onto it. The portion was plentiful, but instead of a delicate sauce of wine and lemon juice, it was smothered in a thick, heavy gravy. The artichoke pieces on top were tough, and rather than serving hearts alone on top of the meat, as expected, they served them with some of the husks attached, so I needed a steak knife to cut through and eat the hearts alone. I love spinach and ordered it at additional cost. What came had zero taste. My husband's dish was equally bad; his meat was swimming in heavy gravy, although instead of spinach, he had soggy, overdone green beans. When the busboy asked if we enjoyed the meal, I said, "No, it was terrible. We won't be coming back again." (He thought I was joking until I added, "Really" and failed to smile. Then the waiter came over and asked the same question and got the same answer. He then went back to the owner and came back with the check, pointing out that they had removed the charge for the glass of wine. Bad food, bad management, bad handling of a complaint. Going back ever again? Nope. Eat there at your own risk.
Overall the food here is good but not great. Service can be spotty depending on how many large groups are in attendance. Prices are high and portions tend to be small. My biggest problem with this restaurant is the noise. Management and waiters can't seem to control loud and unruly patrons especially on a Saturday. The noise can be deafening. This does not contribute to a good dining experience.
I did write a prior review about how consistently bad this restaurant is but because we were hungry, and walking past noticed open tables inside - decided to give it one last chance. Once again, awful and frustrating. We order some drinks and the 1st thing we noticed is the crazy amount of flies surrounding us, the drinks, and the bread. Right away, huge red flag but we try and stay positive. We knew what we wanted for an app but not entrée yet but were told, we had to put whole order in @ once. Ok – no big deal. We ordered the hot antipasto and sure enough, the mussels were mainly empty shells, tiny clams and only 1 stuffed mushroom. Not a huge deal but I politely asked the waitress if a mistake was made as we were both looking forward to having a stuffed mushroom, the manager was sent over. I clearly said perhaps just an honest mistake - the dish only came with one. We didn’t even mention the empty mussels and tiny clams. The manager replied that ordering hot antipasto doesn’t mean you should expect 2 stuffed mushrooms. Lol Really? I didn’t want to be a jerk but the menu literally lists ‘stuffed mushrooms’ plural. We laughed it off and didn’t argue because @ this point we knew still an awful place with awful service. To their credit, the manager did come over with a few clams on the house but just not worth it with flies all over. We ate as quickly as possible and rushed out of there. If this is the popular family that owns many successful restaurants you lost us forever, but for everyone else sake including staff, please try and do better or just sell. I don’t want to see anyone out of work or see a place close but this place consistently demonstrated that they don’t care and the philosophy seems to come from top down. Shame
