We had such a marvellous day with Andrew from “Wildlife on Mull Tours” yesterday 29 July 2024. We saw so many animals: two adult white-tailed eagles, one white-tailed eagle chick, four adders, red deer with velvety antlers, a male hen harrier and a chick hunting together, a mom and daughter otter hunting, playing and snoozing together, many seals, a pheasant, a peacock, oystercatchers, and many more.
Andrew explained all habits, features, individual characteristics of the animals we were privileged to observe. He knows them and talks about them as they are his next-door neighbours. He is never patronising in his descriptions, but explains wildlife time and again until you understand what he means. He was ever so patient with my endless translations to our children (aged 10 and 11), and our kids were in awe of all the astounding landscapes and animals they could see “for real.” They immediately shared pictures with their friends and family on their phones 😊
Andrew definitely has understood the art of the understatement and is funny and thoughtful at the same time.
Andrew’s van has plenty of space and a set of binoculars for every single person on the tour. He also brings 2 telescopes so that everyone can get a good close-up view of the animals spotted. Andrew was so respectful towards the animals: he gets close enough so you can observe them but remains at a respectful distance so as not to disturb their natural habitat.
Honestly, this was a day that we will always remember fondly. Andrew has been living on Mull for a long time and knows this island like the back of his hand. He is kind and thoughtful, plays into the interests and likings of the people joining him on tour, stops to briefly say hello to the locals he knows well. And he made every single one of us stand in awe of Mull’s astounding nature. Thank you so much, Andrew.
My Dad has always wanted to come to the Isle of Mull to witness the wildlife, This year we booked a trip together and booked on to wildlife tour.
Andrew’s tour did not disappoint, aided by a stunning summer day we had the opportunity to see White tailed sea eagles perched in trees, soaring above us and landing on an island whilst we we’re watching a mother otter and her cub in the loch in front of us, at one point I was watching a sea eagle two otters and 4 seals all in the same viewing window of my binoculars, spectacular.
We then moved on to the mountains where we saw a juvenile sea eagle on its nest and then Red deers, we stopped at a lunch spot and witnessed golden eagles soaring above us we then followed these down the valley where they landed on the cliffs, after a while searching the spot where they landed through andrew’s scopes we managed to view the golden eagle looking down over the valley.
We also saw many smaller birds, and raptors and also some large adders basking in the warmth of the sun.
Andrew’s knowledge on wildlife and mull was fantastic.
Looking forward to coming again next summer
This was my second trip with Andrew it was another lovely day we saw otters white tail eagles and hen harriers I was on my own and Andrew made me feel very welcome I will definitely book next year when I go back to mull Andrew also makes a good cup of tea 🍵
This was our first time on Mull so we had high expectations. We were not disappointed and saw everything we were hoping for, white tailed eagles, golden eagles and at the end of the day otters. Andrew knew where the nest sites were so we had great views. Andrew was also very kind helping us on and off the vehicle and accommodating toilet stops. A very enjoyable trip which i would recommend.
We had an great day with Andrew, he is a very friendly guy and very knowledgeable about the island and wildlife. We wanted to see a white-tailed Eagle, Golden Eagle and a Hen Harrier. Amazingly we saw two of each plus four otters, three Adders and a Cuckoo, amazing. We'll go back one day and he's the guy who will be guiding us again.
Thank you Andrew. 😊
Andrew is a font of local wildlife knowledge and stories and we had a great day out with him visiting eagle nest sites and feeding spots, observing otters and lots more. Much recommended. Great that he is so sensitive to maintaining the right distances as not to disturb the animals.
Amazing day out with Andrew. Saw otters, golden eagles, white tailed eagles, seals, hen harrier, loads of other birds - oystercatcher, shag, stonechat, divers, cormorant. Andrew was knowledgeable and so patient with us and really great with the kids too. Highly recommend!
We had a really fantastic day with Andrew. Everything was easy to arrange by email, and he met us off the Ferry from Oban, returning us to the ferry at the end of the day. Andrew is very knowledgeable on all things to do with Mull, from wildlife to local history to the local economy. He doesn't assume any previous knowledge and no question is a stupid question - we both really enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot. Andrew worked really hard and we were lucky enough to see golden eagles, white tailed eagles, otters and lots of other wildlife. Take your own packed lunch, dress for the weather and you'll have a fantastic time. Thanks again Andrew for a lovely day.
What an amazing day we had with Andrew from Wildlife on Mull. He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour and great tea and coffee and shortbread. We learned a lot about Mull and its wildlife. Its an absolutely magic island. We saw otters, white tailed eagle and golden eagle, seals, rutting red deer stags, herons and more. One of the highlights of our recent trip to Scotland.
